What it's like

Honig is relaxed and open-air. The core experience is a seated Terrace Tasting of five wines over 75 minutes, with vineyard views. The family has farmed sustainably for decades and runs on solar power, which is part of what they talk about on a visit.

Beyond the terrace, there is a Fly By Flight for people short on time, an Eco Tour & Tasting that adds a vineyard cart ride before the terrace tasting (about 90 minutes), and a Reserve Room AVA Experience that focuses on single-vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon with charcuterie, also 90 minutes. Groups of 10 to 20 can book a two-hour Group Garden Tasting.

Who it's best for

Families and dog owners are the clearest fit. Well-behaved leashed dogs are welcome on the terrace, and children are welcome at the Terrace Tasting, where children over 12 months are charged $10 and get juice and a snack. Kids stay seated with parents, and drawing supplies are provided. White wine fans will like that Sauvignon Blanc is a house specialty.

What to book

Tastings are by appointment daily, 10 AM to 4 PM, and reservations are required through Tock. A maximum of nine people can share a table at the Terrace Tasting. Plan the driving in advance. A designated driver, rideshare or tour is the right call, and the earlier hours mean you can start the day here.

How it fits into a day

Honig closes at 4, so book it as a morning or early-afternoon stop. Rutherford neighbors like Caymus, Grgich Hills and Round Pond are a short drive, and St. Helena is close for dinner.
