Sequoia Grove

What it's like

Sequoia Grove is a Cabernet house on Highway 29 with a food-forward approach. Tastings are set in the estate gardens or in a 1908 barn, and several experiences pair the wines with chef-prepared bites. The idea is to match wines with flavors that work together, rather than follow rigid rules.

The entry tasting is Taste of Sequoia Grove at $60 per person, four estate wines including the Rutherford Bench Reserve Cabernet. Wines + Bites is $85 per person, with four reds and small bites. The Single Vineyard Experience is $75 for a wine flight or $100 with paired bites. A Taste for Cabernet is a multi-course experience with the chef at $175 per person, and an evening version, A Taste for Cabernet at Dusk, is also $175.

Visitors who want food with their wine without booking a full meal, and anyone who likes a garden setting. It also suits Cabernet fans who want to compare single-vineyard wines. All guests must be 21 or older.

What to book

The winery is open Wednesday through Monday, 10 AM to 5 PM, by reservation, and walk-ins are not accepted. Book through their tasting page, or call 707-339-5757 to check same-day availability. Club members receive complimentary tastings on several of the options. Check current offerings and times on their site before you go.

Plan your transportation first. A designated driver, rideshare or tour is the safe approach for a day of reds.

How it fits into a day

Sequoia Grove is on the Highway 29 corridor, close to Caymus, Grgich Hills and Inglenook. The Wines + Bites tasting can act as a light lunch, which leaves the rest of the afternoon for one more stop and an early dinner in St. Helena.
