What it's like

Mumm Napa is the valley's bubbles stop. Tastings are mostly about sparkling wine, served on an outdoor patio with mountain views or in a climate-controlled tasting room, depending on the experience you pick. It is a lighter, more social visit than a Cabernet cellar.

The entry tasting is Sip & Sparkle at $48 per person (complimentary for club members), about 60 minutes with a choice of three flights. Discover Your Sparkle is $55 and is more interactive. Vineside Tasting is $60 and runs on weekends from May to October. Oak Terrace Heritage Tasting is $85 with artisan cheeses, and the Mystery Tasting at $75 is a 75-minute blind tasting challenge. The Capture the Sparkle Private Tour & Tasting is $125 and includes the production process.

Who it's best for

Groups of friends, celebrations and anyone who wants a break from big reds. The Mystery Tasting suits groups up to 14, which makes it an easy choice for a party. Everyone in your group needs to be 21 or older, with no exceptions.

What to book

Reservations are recommended for Sip & Sparkle, Vineside and Oak Terrace, and required for Discover Your Sparkle, the Mystery Tasting and the private tour. The Mystery Tasting is booked by phone at 800-686-6272. Hours are 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM daily, with the last seating at 5:00 PM. Check current availability on their tastings page before you go.

Arrange a designated driver, rideshare or tour. Sparkling flights go down easily, so it is worth planning ahead.

How it fits into a day

Silverado Trail is a calmer drive than Highway 29. Mumm works as a mid-afternoon stop, since it stays open later than many nearby wineries. Combine it with Rutherford neighbors like Honig or Alpha Omega, then have dinner in St. Helena or Yountville.
