Storybook Mountain Vineyards

What it's like

Storybook's visit is a tour, not a bar tasting. You walk through organically farmed vineyards with views over the northern end of the valley, go through the property's 130-year-old caves, and finish with a tasting of current wines. The whole thing runs about 90 minutes.

Who it's best for

Curious visitors who like to learn how a vineyard works, hikers in comfortable shoes, and groups that want a relaxed, hosted visit. Children are welcome if they are respectful, and dogs are allowed on the outdoor portions only. There is no food service on site.

What to book

The visitor fee is $50 per person and can be waived with a 2-bottle purchase. Tours are by appointment Monday through Saturday and the winery is closed Sundays. Book online or call 707-942-5310. For parties of seven or more, contact the winery directly.

The entrance gate is usually closed to protect the vineyard, so push the button to open it. Highway 128 is narrow and curvy, and biking there is not recommended. Bring a designated driver or use a rideshare or tour.

How it fits into a day

Block half a morning or afternoon, and eat beforehand or after since nothing is served. Jericho Canyon Vineyard and Chateau Montelena are in the same part of the valley, so this suits a second stop on a quiet, scenic day. Check current appointment times on their site before you go.
