Davis Estates describes itself as a century-old estate winery in the Calistoga area, and its focus is on wine, food and family. The visits here are structured experiences rather than a quick bar tasting, with set start times through the day.

Who it's best for

Groups and couples who want a longer, guided visit with food involved, and Cabernet drinkers interested in the Napa Valley's different growing areas. Standard reservations are limited to six guests, and larger parties are handled through a group request.

• Estate Wine & Food Pairing: $100, 60 minutes, starting at 10 AM, 12 PM, 2 PM and 3:30 PM
• Napa Cave Tour & Wine Tasting: $125, 90 minutes
• Cabernet Sauvignon AVA Exploration: $150, 90 minutes
• Collector's Tasting: $200, 90 minutes
• VIP Experience: $275, 120 minutes

The longer experiences start at 10 AM, 12 PM and 2 PM. Special times such as 3:30 PM may be possible for some experiences on request. Reserve online, or call 707.942.0700 for visit questions.

Do not drive after tasting: plan a designated driver, rideshare or tour.

How it fits into a day

The winery operates daily from 9am to 5pm, but your slot is what matters. Because the experiences run 60 to 120 minutes, book one anchor visit here and keep the rest of the day light, with lunch in Calistoga. Check current offerings and times on their site before you go.
