What it's like
Jericho Canyon sits up a winding road in a canyon at the base of the Palisades. The winery keeps daily guest numbers low to protect the quiet. Depending on the season and your preference, your tasting happens on the outdoor terrace, in the tasting room or in the cave.
Who it's best for
Cabernet drinkers who want a private, unhurried visit and are comfortable with a bumpy ride. The Private Estate Tasting begins with an ATV tour of the vineyard and winery, so it suits people who like to see how the property sits on the land.
What to book
Tastings are by appointment only:
- Private Estate Tasting: $100 per person, 75 minutes, with an ATV tour followed by a seated tasting of current releases. The fee is waived with a 3-bottle red wine purchase per person.
- Reserve Tasting: $200 per person, 75 minutes, focusing on age-worthy, limited-production and library wines. The fee is waived with a 6-bottle red wine purchase per person.
Book online, or call 707-942-9665 for larger groups. Because the road up is winding and the appointments are small, arrive on time and have a designated driver or take a rideshare or tour.
How it fits into a day
Treat this as your main stop: a 75-minute tasting plus the drive up and down fills a late morning or afternoon. Pair it with lunch in Calistoga, and perhaps Storybook Mountain Vineyards or Chateau Montelena nearby. Check current appointment times on their site before you go.
