Ad Hoc is the easygoing side of the Keller family of restaurants. Five days a week the kitchen serves a family-style menu that changes daily, paired with an approachable wine list and a few twists on classic cocktails. The idea is generous, shared, comfortable food rather than a formal tasting sequence.

Who it's best for

Groups, families and friends who want to eat well without a lot of ceremony. It suits people who enjoy being surprised by the day's menu rather than picking from a long list, and it is a good option if you want the Yountville dining experience at a gentler pace than the flagship.

You eat what the kitchen is serving that day, so the menu is posted online daily and it is worth a look before you commit. Wine and cocktail lists are on the site as well.

Reservations are taken through the restaurant's reservations page, and you can also reach the team at 707.944.2487 or yountvillereservations@tkrg.com. Hours as listed: lunch Friday and Saturday 11:00am to 2:00pm, brunch Sunday 10:00am to 2:30pm, and dinner Thursday through Monday from 4:30pm to 9:00pm or 9:30pm. The restaurant is closed Tuesday and Wednesday. Addendum, the companion takeout concept, is noted as closed for the season on the site, so check its status if you were hoping to grab something to go.

How it fits into a day

Lunch or Sunday brunch makes a good midday anchor between morning and afternoon tastings. Dinner pairs nicely with a slow walk down Washington Street afterward. As with any Yountville meal that involves wine, plan on a designated driver, rideshare or a hotel within walking distance.
