What it's like

PlumpJack Winery sits in the middle of Oakville, in a historic building, and the tastings are built around Cabernet Sauvignon. The standard experience is a 60-minute sit-down with the current releases and a cheeseboard to share, which keeps it relaxed and conversational. If you want more depth, the Collector's Tasting goes through select vintages of Oakville Cabernet.

It is a smaller, friendlier stop than the grand estates nearby, which many visitors like.

Who it's best for

Cabernet fans who want a mid-sized, unhurried tasting, couples, and small groups who would like some food on the table with the wine.

Two core experiences are offered. The PlumpJack Tasting Experience is about an hour, covers current releases, and comes with a shared cheeseboard. The Collector's Tasting is a curated look at select vintages. There is also a Passport Experience that travels across the PlumpJack Collection portfolio and includes a seasonal boxed lunch. As everywhere in the valley, plan on a designated driver, a rideshare, or a tour service, since tastings add up over a day.

How it fits into a day

PlumpJack is a short drive from Silver Oak, B Cellars and Robert Mondavi Winery, so it slots in nicely as one of two or three Oakville stops. Aim for a late morning or early afternoon slot, then have lunch in Yountville.
