What it's like
The inn occupies three historic buildings in the Napa Mill complex, with the original structure dating to 1884. No two rooms are alike: some have fireplaces, some have patios, some look onto the river or a courtyard, and a few come with clawfoot tubs and antique furnishings. It feels like a character building rather than a hotel box.
Who it's best for
Couples and small groups who want to be in downtown Napa and walk to dinner, and travelers with dogs. The Very Important Pet program allows up to two pets for $50 a night, with blankets, place mats and bowls provided; pets cannot be left alone in the room.
Rooms and amenities
Booking direct comes with no resort fees and complimentary parking, and fresh pastries from Sweetie Pies arrive at the door each morning. The Napa Mill complex includes Angele Restaurant, specialty shops and a full-service spa. Because rooms vary so much, look at the room descriptions and tell the front desk what you want, such as a fireplace or a river view.
Where it puts you
You are at the Main Street end of downtown Napa, near the riverfront, Oxbow and the downtown tasting rooms and restaurants. Most evenings you can leave the car parked. For the big names on Highway 29 or the Silverado Trail you will need a rideshare, a tour or a designated driver, so plan the wine part of the day ahead and reserve tastings.
