The Meritage Resort and Spa

What it's like

The Meritage is a big, resort-style property on Bordeaux Way, south of downtown Napa. It works like a small village: restaurants, a lounge with bowling, a cafe, a grocery, tasting rooms in an area called The Village, and a food and wine center all sit on the grounds. There are also on-site vineyards, and a summer live-music series runs on the property.

Who it's best for

Families, groups and anyone who likes to unpack once and have dinner, a spa day and a glass of wine without getting in the car. It also suits people coming for a wedding or event, since the resort has venues for those. Pets are accepted in some accommodations, so ask when you book.

Rooms and amenities

Choose from king rooms, two-queen rooms, junior suites, one- and two-bedroom suites and adjoining rooms. Spa Terra offers a full treatment menu, and there are several pools with cabanas plus fitness classes. Dining on site includes Ember Steak, Olive & Hay, Crush Lounge, Blend Cafe, poolside dining and in-room dining. Booking direct is available on the resort's own site, and there is a loyalty program called Stay Golden Rewards.

Where it puts you

You are on the south side of the valley, a short drive from downtown Napa, with Yountville and the main stretch of Highway 29 wineries a drive north. Plan on driving or a rideshare for anything off property. If you want to wander to dinner on foot, downtown Napa or Yountville is a better base; if you want everything in one place, this is it.
