Trefethen Family Vineyards

What it's like

Trefethen is a family-owned estate on Oak Knoll Avenue, on the Napa side of the valley, and part of the experience is the historic 19th-century winery building. It is open daily from 9am to 5pm, which makes it one of the earlier starts in the valley. Everything is reserved in advance.

The simplest option is Winery Flights, 60 minutes at $45 per person, with five different wines that show the range of the Trefethen portfolio, held inside the historic winery. The Reserve Tasting in The Villa is 90 minutes at $70 per person ($56 for members) with limited-production wines and a charcuterie board with local cheeses and the estate's own preserves. The Vineyard Tour and Tasting is $75 per person ($60 members), 90 minutes, and starts with a guided walk among the vines before a cellar tour and a tasting of wines from the vineyard you just walked. At the top, Taste the Estate in The Villa is $125 per guest ($100 members), 90 minutes, with five wines and bites made with seasonal produce from the estate garden.

Who it's best for

Guests who like some food with the wine, anyone curious about the farm, and visitors who prefer a calmer, less crowded part of the valley. Note that the Villa menu cannot be changed to accommodate a dairy-free restriction.

How it fits into a day

Oak Knoll is south of Yountville, so Trefethen works well as a morning stop before lunch in Yountville or Napa. Pair it with another Oak Knoll or Silverado Trail winery in the afternoon.
