What it's like

Farmstead occupies a former nursery barn on Main Street, with a lively open kitchen and covered, heated outdoor seating. The food is American farmhouse cooking built from what Long Meadow Ranch produces on its own farm, ranch and vineyards, so menus change with the season.

Beyond the main dining room there is a wine bar and tasting space serving a la carte plates and wood-fired pizzas, and a Garden Lounge and Cafe that opens every morning from 7 to 11:30 a.m.

Groups, families, and anyone who wants a relaxed meal with ingredients that trace back to a specific ranch. The restaurant has private and semi-private indoor spaces for parties up to 20, and group dining can be booked up to four months ahead, so it also works for celebrations.

What to order & how to book

Look for the live-fire cooking: grass-fed beef or burgers, heritage pork chop, wild salmon or grilled trout, plus starters and salads that shift with the harvest. Pizzas are the easy choice at the wine bar.

Restaurant hours are Monday to Thursday 11:30 a.m. to 8 p.m., Friday 11:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m., Saturday 11 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. and Sunday 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday brunch is offered, and pickup and delivery are available. The wine bar keeps shorter hours and is closed Tuesday and Wednesday, so check the site if that is your plan.

How it fits into a day

Farmstead is right in downtown St. Helena, so it pairs well with a morning of tastings and a walk along Main Street. Breakfast at the cafe followed by a late lunch here is a good plan if you are staying in town. If wine is part of the day, have a designated driver or rideshare lined up.
