What it's like
Pride Mountain is high on Spring Mountain Road, and the drive up is part of the experience: winding, narrow and not suited to a big vehicle. Once you arrive, the experiences combine a walk through the caves with a seated tasting of current wines. Plan on about 90 minutes.
Who it's best for
People who enjoy mountain Cabernet and want to see how a hillside winery works. It suits couples and small groups of up to six. If you want a spontaneous drop-in, this is the wrong place, since appointments are required and fill early.
What to book
Three in-person options, each about 90 minutes and available Wednesday through Monday (closed Tuesdays):
- Estate Experience, $50 per person: a cave walk and a selection of current wines.
- Reserve Experience, $75 per person: a cave walk plus a seated tasting of the Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon and Vintner Select wines.
- Summit Experience, $95 per person: a seated tasting in a private setting, with current and limited releases. The winery says only eight of these appointments are available per week, so reserve well ahead.
Non-tasters are free. For availability, use the Appointment Inquiry form or call 707-963-4949; the concierge team is available daily from 9 am to 5 pm, and you can call about openings within 72 hours.
The winery strongly discourages Uber and Lyft on this road, so arrange a driver you trust, a private car service or a guided tour, and have a designated driver for the group.
How it fits into a day
Book the morning slot and head back down for lunch in St. Helena. Other Spring Mountain producers, including Smith-Madrone, are nearby, but take the time between appointments into account because the road is slow.
