What it's like
Meadowood is a 250-acre estate east of St. Helena that calls itself more open than a family estate and more private than a resort. It reopened after the 2020 Glass Fire as a smaller property, and today it offers a quiet, wooded setting with its own gardens, hiking trails and a Wine Center for tastings and wine education.
Who it's best for
Couples and special-occasion travelers who want a high-end stay and are happy to stay on property for much of it. It suits people who like tennis, walking and spa time as much as wine.
Rooms and amenities
Accommodation types include Hill House, Treeline Suite, Treetop Room, Cottage Room and Oakview Room. There is a spa, three swimming pools, five outdoor tennis courts, a fitness center and trails. Dining includes Forum, the fine-dining restaurant, plus Terrace Cafe and in-room dining, with ingredients drawn from the property's gardens and the wider valley. The resort has a Relais & Chateaux membership and holds three Michelin Keys.
Where it puts you
Meadowood is on its own lane off the Silverado Trail side of the valley, a drive from downtown St. Helena and its restaurants and shops. Plan on a car, rideshare or hired driver to leave the grounds, and book tastings and Forum ahead. Rates are at the top of the range, so check current pricing on the resort's site.
