What it's like

Sam's Social Club runs a long day: breakfast, lunch, an afternoon lounge and dinner. The cooking is contemporary American, built around seasonal ingredients from Napa Valley farmers, and the menu covers everything from eggs Benedict in the morning to steak at night.

Who it's best for

Visitors staying nearby, spa-goers, and anyone who wants a full-service meal at almost any time of day. Larger parties are handled too, which helps if you are traveling with family or a group.

What to order & how to book

Dishes on the menu have included eggs Benedict with smoked pork loin ($24), duck confit with farro and fig vinaigrette ($40), grilled Ora King salmon with heirloom tomato passata ($41), a grilled ribeye ($56) and candy cap churros ($16). Menus change, so check the current one.

Hours: breakfast Monday to Friday 8 to 10:30 a.m.; brunch Saturday and Sunday 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.; lunch Monday to Friday 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.; lounge daily 2:30 to 5:30 p.m.; dinner Sunday to Thursday 5:30 to 9 p.m. and Friday and Saturday 5:30 to 9:30 p.m.

Parties of 1 to 8 can reserve online. Groups of 9 to 12 should call (707) 709-2888, and groups of 13 or more should contact group sales at the same number.

How it fits into a day

A flexible base for a Calistoga day: breakfast before a tasting appointment, lunch afterwards, or dinner after a soak. If you are tasting during the day, arrange a rideshare or designated driver. For a different dinner, Lovina and Evangeline are in the same town.
